Designed by R.A Riddles after nationalisation as one of 12 standard designs.

The 'BR Standard Class' locomotives were intended to replace many of the numerous types of locomotive that were inherited by BR in 1948 as a result of Nationalisation.

The 4MT 4-6-0 was introduced in 1951. They were designed for mixed traffic use on secondary routes where the otherwise ubiquitous BR standard class 5 and their fore runners, the Black Fives, would be too heavy. They were essentially a tender version of the standard 4MT 2-6-4T Class

This example is in BR Lined Green and has the late crest and a BR2 Tender. It has a weathered finish.
