Bachmann 31-975 BR Standard Class 3MT Tank 82029
Designed by R.A Riddles after nationalisation as one of 12 standard designs.
The 'BR Standard Class' locomotives were intended to replace many of the numerous types of locomotive that were inherited by BR in 1948 as a result of Nationalisation.
The 3MT Tank was first built in 1952 at Swindon Works and was designed for mixed traffic and was used on all BR regions. It was heavily based on the LMS Ivatt Class 4 and shared a significant number of parts.
