Portland, Or max light rail: How close to the Amtrak Station 800 NW 6th Ave is there a light rail station?

I am considering an Amtrak trip to Oregon to visit relatives who live in Banks, Oregon. If I can get the max light rail to Hillsboro it will save my relatives driving time in picking me up. Once I am on the light rail (train, not bus) I am all set as I have used it a lot. So I would like to know how far a walk it is from the Amtrak Station to the closest MAX station.

The MAX is not within walking distance.
Take the #9 bus to Portland (going downtown)
Tell the driver you need an all zone ticket which is about $2.75.
Get off at or close to 3rd and Morrison. The closet MAX stop is near Borders (ask the driver, he can let you know where to get off)
Take the BLUE line to Hillsboro (end of the line).
The total trip should take about 1 hour 15 minutes…

If you’re taking Amtrak into Portland (Union Station), you will be in the fareless square of downtown. Hop on any bus going into downtown (you can catch them right outside the station near the Greyhouse station which is a block away and it’s free in fareless sq) and get off near Pioneer Place. Probably about 6-8 stops from the train station. The Max is right there. You *could* walk it if you don’t have a lot of luggage. It’s a little less than a mile.
